The Campus of Turkish Maarif Foundation in Ethiopia was released to service for local authorities in the scope of the struggle against the new type of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Located in the east of the country, in the city of Harar, the establishments of Turkish Maarif Foundation including the dormitories, the canteen and the medical premises were released to service for the city administration during the period of the epidemic for the treatment and quarantine of patients.

The campus, poised to become the treatment center for any COVID-19 cases emerging in the province, will attempt to close the gap in health services that might arise in the region.

According to a statement from Turkish Maarif Foundation Representative, distance education system has been implemented to avoid disrupting the annual curriculum. “We are supporting the country where we are present to fight against the virus spreading increasingly around the World. As our teachers and students are working from home through distance education, we have temporarily released our buildings to the service of Health Ministry so that they can convert them into a quarantine and treatment center during the pandemic. We will be able to use our campuses again after meticulous disinfection following the outbreak.”

In the scope of the struggle against the virus, strict measures have been taken by Ethiopia. So far, 655 cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed, while 5 persons died due to the epidemic.
